AC valve for drip irrigation

Posted: 3 years ago Quote
I would like to convert a single valve of my current in-ground system to run just drippers.  But I read that my valve (orbit 1" inline) may not work correctly with the reduced flow.  I calculate maybe .3GPM.

Is this a real problem, or will my valve work OK?

Has anybody done this?

thanks!

We recommend that you purchase a low flow valve because otherwise it may not open and close properly at a flow rated less than designed for.  Toro makes a one inch valve that will operate .25  to 30 gpm.

Hi again,

After some research I found a valve by Weathermatic that should work nicely, the Nitro series.  The manufacturer says that it will operate correctly down to 1GPH! That's pretty low.  I will try them and post my results.

Hi again,

Well I have updated my valves to the Weathermatic Nitro 1" series (from sprinklerwarehouse) and I am very happy.  These valves have a flow control knob that allows you to turn the flow down to 1 gallon per hour (very very tiny amount) and still have the valve operate correctly.  Most of the valves I looked at were 1 to 2 gallons per minute, with a few as low as .2 gallons per minute.  Not low enough for a zone with only a few drippers.

Now my drippers and valves are working perfectly!  I have recently installed a nice new patio (25 x 34 ft) and all the plants around the perimeter as well as the potted plants get just the water they need from my built in irrigation system.
